2024 ACTIVITIES
The workshop aimed to enhance the skills and knowledge of healthcare workers in newborn screening for Sickle Cell Disease (SCD), focusing on improving their ability to follow up and monitor babies identified through the screening program.
The Stakeholders Workshop on ACCELERATE provided participants more knowledge about the program study and its implementation, and was rounded off with Focus Group Discussions involving the various site leads.
The Centre of Excellence for Sickle Cell Research and Training (CESRTA) at the University of Abuja invited all students of the university to participate in a competition to create awareness materials in the form of jingles or skits
The workshop was well attended by members of the Standard-Based Audit (SBA) team and the Participatory Action Cycle (PAC) from the six participating sites. Also in attendance were Dr. Motto Nganda from LSTM.
2023 ACTIVITIES
In 2023, the Centre of Excellence for Sickle Cell Disease Research and Training (CESRTA) at the University of Abuja organized a media outreach and campaign to commemorate World Sickle Cell Day.
2022 ACTIVITIES
The workshop had a good representation of the different stakeholder groups, with 80% of the project sites able to connect to the Abuja hub online for the workshop. A workshop on REDCap was organized from 20-21 January 2022. REDCap is a data management system used to capture patient information and follow up details. The broad aim of the workshop was to ensure that adequate data was collected accurately from the project sites, utilizing REDCap.
The aim of the workshop was to review the first year of the project and prepare for year 2 activities. As some of the collaborating sites were not part of Phase 1 of the project, they therefore needed some training as the project would be going into a research-orientated phase in year 2.
